The Results Are In!

I recently polled my readers to find out what they think of the Nachos Notes column.

They both said they like it!

A Medrash Pliah

I have figured out the famous Medrash Pliah on Parshas Noah: They’re gone because 2 came but had more than three.

It means two unicorns came to the Taivah but they had more than 3 ounces of water so they couldn’t get past security.

My Kids When I was in Graduate School

They wanted to attend child/professor conferences to find out how I was doing.

They wouldn’t help me with my homework because the professor would know that my kids did it.

They called my professor to complain that I was getting too much homework.

They wanted to send cupcakes to the university for my birthday.

An Amateur Shaddchan

My sister thought she knows my son very well so she set him up with her friend’s daughter.  It didn’t go well.  I guess my sister misread him.

New from Feldscroll Publications:
An out of my depth guide to the Zohar haKodesh, with a new translation into Modern Aramaic by Gibba Kook, known in some circles as Gibba Kick.  You should look at it!

Purim Parenting Halacha Tips

Many parents enjoy doing chazarah with their children on Shabbos. While this is admirable and can be a source of nachas, there are halachic concerns.  To avoid these issues, be sure to do the following:

If you lift a sefer from the desk and want to put it back onto the desk do not put it down onto anything else and release your hand.

Make sure you intend to put it back onto the desk when you lift it.

If you picked up the wrong sefer from the desk, you may put it back onto the desk.

If your child’s learning isn’t so hot, these concerns do not apply.

Personal Q and A with Rabbi Ackerman

FJJ: You hosted a Jewish radio program in Baltimore for eight years.  Why did you give it up?

Me: It was taking them too long to do my makeup.

FJJ: You said you can only remember one issue your parents A”H had with you on an ongoing basis.  Tell us about that.

Me: I repeatedly asked for digital devices and my parents wouldn’t give me any!  Every time I asked them why, they said it was because they hadn’t been invented yet.  Now that I’m older, I see their point.
