Clinical social work is a state regulated professional practice of providing a holistic approach to psychotherapy to treat disturbances in the mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being of individuals, couples, families, and groups. The scope of clinical social work extends across many practice settings and populations. Clinical social workers shall demonstrate specialized knowledge and skills for effective clinical interventions. This workshop will prepare individuals seeking advanced licensure and novice clinical social workers to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of clinical social work practice.

Cognitive, behavioral and holistic competence (60 minutes)

Understanding content area, key competencies and discrete knowledge components.

Social work setting and the social worker role

Theory vs model vs perspective in assessment and intervention

Using the Social Work Problem Solving Model and Phase Specific Skills

Strategies for ethical reasoning

 

Multidimensional bio-psycho-social-spiritual assessment  (30 minutes)

Basics of differential diagnosis

 

Group Activity and facilitated Discussion: Practice Scenarios (60 minutes)

Synthesizing and differentially applying theories of human behavior and the social environment

How to critically select and apply best practices and evidenced based interventions
