Dr. Belson will discuss some basic principles of short term couple therapy.  He will also discuss the steps of the first interview and a series of interventions that will lead to a successful outcome in five to ten sessions.

The Couples Therapy workshop will:

  • go into depth on the concepts of joining, control, highlighting positives, giving hope and enactment.
  • will explain the importance of meeting with each member of the couple separately in order to find out secrets, possibility of domestic violence and possible addictions.
  • provide the structure to build positive interventions such as being more spiritual, helping the couple gain more knowledge and understanding about the partner, learning how to speak admirably about the other and teaching them to be more loving.
  • provide examples of paradoxical interventions which bring couples closer together.
