Introducing Compassion Focused Psychosexual Therapy: A Facilitated Group Discussion
This facilitated discussion explores the emerging model of Compassion Focused Psychosexual Therapy (CFPT)introduced by Vosper and colleagues (2023), which integrates principles of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) into psychosexual treatment. Grounded in evolutionary psychology, attachment theory, and affect regulation models, CFPT emphasizes compassion as a core therapeutic stance to address shame, self-criticism, and emotional dysregulation that often accompany sexual difficulties.
Participants will examine how compassion-based strategies can enhance traditional psychosexual approaches, particularly in clients whose experiences of shame, anxiety, or relational trauma inhibit sexual functioning. The session will invite reflection on clinical application, theoretical integration, and potential implications for future research and practice.
Attendees are encouraged to read the article in advance and come prepared to engage in an open discussion about how compassion-focused frameworks might transform the therapeutic process for individuals and couples facing sexual concerns.
