Supporting Parents in Challenging Times:
Changing Roles, Reassurance in Times of Uncertainty

Therapists and mental health practitioners are often asked to support and advise parents on best practices to ensure proper child development.  In the current unpredictable pandemic situation, parents require assistance in adapting their practices to best support children's well being.  In particular, this course will include tools and information about changing expectations during a crisis, helping parents understand developmental responses to crisis, and understanding and revising critical parenting roles - including that of providing reassurance.  Clinical and educational strategies to help parents understand the need for self-care and self-management will also be provided.

Rona Novick, Ph.D a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, served for decades as director of Child Psychology at NS-LIJ Medical Center, and another decade at the Azrieli Graduate School at Yeshiva University.  Over 30 years experience in clinical practice.

II.Chat room share out activity- typical therapist and mental health practitioners roles in supporting and advising parents
III. Brief presentation of current pandemic impact requiring adaptation of parenting practices  - solicit scenarios from participants
         a. discussion of parental resistance and strategies for overcoming changing expectations for self and child       during a crisis
         b. brief presentation of psychoeducation re: understanding developmental responses to crisis, resources available shared
         c. Discussion of art and science of providing reassurance in uncertain times  - include role plays of good and poor examples of reassurance in case scenarios and guidelines/resources  for shaping parental behavior
III. Presentation of clinical and educational strategies to support parents' self-care and emotional and behavioral self-management

Registrants who are unable to attend a Frum Therapist seminar or live workshop may ask for, and will receive, a credit or refund (your choice). Refund requests will be processed within 3 business days.
