Parenting the Explosive Child
As a family therapist, my focus is to help individuals, couples and families through relationship changes. Whether parents who are having difficult time with their children, couples who are not maximizing their relationships or families in distress I use relationships and communication to shift insabilty and develop healthy connections.
Additionally, I specialize in dealing with children who have a difficult time regulating their emotions. These children fit the description of Ross Greene's "The Explosive Child." Common symptoms include the inability to tolerate change, disappointment and when things don't go as expected. When faced with the unexpected these children become irrational and will begin to wreak havoc, by breaking things, throwing tantrums, or harming others. My work focuses on both developing skills for the parents to help the child regulate his emotions as well as on the child to help reduce familial distress. I also offer support groups for mothers of Explosive Children.
