Initial Assessment of Dyspneic Patient

As an emergency medicine physician, the ability to swiftly decipher a patient's presenting complaints and conduct an initial physical examination is a crucial skill. However, some life-threatening issues may not be immediately apparent, leading to potential mortality and morbidity. For instance, during the Covid pandemic, anxiety was often misdiagnosed as the cause of dyspnea, failing to address the underlying problem of respiratory distress. By decoding the patient's complaint and carefully observing their physical presentation, a rapid differential diagnosis can be achieved. Equally important is the timely and appropriate implementation of interventions to address the underlying issue.
