The first portion of this presentation describes the basic anatomy and physiology of sexual functioning. The specific stages of the sexual response cycle will be presented and both linear and circular models for sexual functioning in wen and women will be introduced. In addition, the major sexual dysfunctions will be introduced and discussed from a bio-psycho-social perspective and will highlight how physiological and medical factors, psychological issues and emotions such as depression, guilt and anxiety, relationship distress, and social and cultural factors can affect sexual functioning. Common causes and interventions for deceased sexual desire and arousal, difficulties achieving orgasm, premature and delayed ejaculation, and sexual pain will be introduced.
